Wasn't Expecting That - Jamie Lawson - chords and lyrics
Jamie Lawson had a hit with this song in Ireland a few years back. Since then he's signed up with Ed Sheeran's new label and now the song is doing quite well in this part of the world.
It's a love song... apparently - and if you haven't yet heard it - I won't spoil the ending for you.
Happy playing. Nice easy chords and a good string-slapping tune as well. I didn't even have to do too much chord figuring out for this one since his video/s on YouTube show how it's done.
(Just a little note: G#m and Ab are the same chords by my understanding, so in this song I've put them down as Ab. Only sounds hard... Just play a normal E chord with bar chord on 4th fret)
I play this song with or without a Capo - but if you want to play along to the original - the sound coming out of your speakers, put your Capo on 6)
C Em Am G F
It was only a smile but my heart it went wild
F G C Am/G
And I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
Just a delicate kiss, anyone could've missed
F G C G
I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
Did I misread the sign? your hand slipped into mine
F G C Am/G
And I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
(You) spent the night in my bed, you woke up and you said,
F G C
Well I wasn't expecting that
Dm Em E7
And I thought love wasn't meant to last
F G C
Oh I thought you were just passing through
Am Em
(And) if I ever get the nerve to ask
F G G7
What did I get right to deserve somebody like you
C
I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
It was only a word, it was almost misheard
F G C Am/G
Coz I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
But it came without fear - a month turned into a year
F G C
(And) I wasn't expecting that
Dm Em E7
And I thought love wasn't meant to last
F G C
Honey, I thought you were just passing through
Am Em
So if I ever get the nerve to ask
F G G7
What did I get right to deserve somebody like you
C
I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F G C Am/G
G Ab Am F
Oh and isn't it strange - how a life can be changed
F G C
(With) In the flicker of the sweetest smile
G Ab Am
We were married in spring
Am F
You know I wouldn't change a thing
F G G7
Without that innocent kiss - what a life I'd have missed
C Em Am G F
If you did not take a chance on a little romance
F G C Am/G
When I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
Time doesn't take long - three kids up and gone
F G C Am/G
I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
And when the nurses they came, said it's come back again
F G C Am/G
I wasn't expecting that
C Em Am G F
Then you closed your eyes - took my heart by surprise
F G C
And I wasn't expecting that
